Popeye Series

Starting today, the Serpentine Gallery in London will open its doors to the public to present Jeff Koons’ Popeye Series. This will be Koons’ first major exhibition in a public gallery in England, which is why they are expected to draw in BIG crowds. The show includes a number of monumental oil paintings featuring the iconic figures of Popeye and Olive Oyl, as well as a number of his sculptures inspired in inflatable beach and bath toys. Also, if you happen to be lucky enough to be in the big L these days, be sure to head over to the gallery this Thursday (July 2nd) as Koons himself will be conducting a rare talk about his work!

  1. touchpuppet says:

Jeff Koons sucks. He had one good idea, his balloon dog, but that was it.

  2. I caught the private view at the Serpentine Gallery as well as the Jeff Koons discussion at the V & A. Both were really interesting and Mr Koons was very generous with his time. He signed several rare books for me and was a real gentleman. A pleasure to finally meet him after following his work for so many years.

I´ve never had the pleasure of meeting Koons, but he does seem like a really cool guy, with his feet on the ground regardless of his staggering prices.

@touchpuppet: i agree that his balloon dog is great, yet theres more of his work thats up there too.

@Richard Prince Books: glad you got a chance to meet him and see his show… great opportunity to view a solid collection of his works. happy days then
