In 1949 Gjon Mili (photographer for LIFE magazine) visited Pablo Picasso in Vallauris, France. During his visit, he showed Picasso some photographs of ice skaters with tiny lights affixed to their skates jumping in the dark. Story has it that Picasso was immediately inspired and got to it, and these photos are the result.

Air Lines is a series of 3 prints by Mario Freese showing worldwide airliner routes. Every single scheduled flight on any given day is represented by a fine line from it’s point of origin to it’s port of destination. Thereby forming a net of thousands of lines. Hubs like JFK, FRA or DXB turn into dark knots where lines meet, lesser served local services are only are a subtle hint. There are 3 versions of the print for you to buy: a white print with black routes, a white print with both the routes and a geographical outline in black, and a black print with white routes. All three ares stunning!
